Sovereign L1s

Metal now hosts 7 non-primary subnets, all of which have been converted to sovereign L1s under ACP-77. Their validators are subnet-only validators: they hold a BLS key and burn a continuous per-second fee from a prefunded balance, and they do not bond METAL or join the Primary Network validator set.

What this changes for operators

Primary Network staking is unaffected. L1 validators pay a fee instead of bonding stake, so they neither dilute staking rewards nor count toward the decentralization metrics for the 3-chain Primary Network.
Running an L1 node is a separate opt-in workload: a node registers per L1 with its own BLS key and stays active only while its fee balance holds. A drained balance deactivates the validator.
These L1s run custom, non-EVM VMs. Their chain RPCs are not exposed on the public Metal API node, so block and transaction data is not reachable from here. These pages show only the P-Chain's view of each subnet.
